RebeccA Gibson
Artist Statement
As an actor and writer, I’d like to explore my personal experiences with mental health, being queer and a person of faith, drawing on how these intersect. I want to create work for audiences to understand my personal experiences and observations of others throughout life, reflecting how as individuals this can shift your perspective of the world we live in as we grow up and learn more about it, ourselves and others.
I believe in connection through art, aiming to draw attention to how people feel, with the idea of spending time with yourself and others as a driving force with this as it shows how what we learn through life is through connections with yourself and others, in whatever way that may be. Human emotions are complex, and I want people to feel represented as I show how complicated it can be to understand your feelings and why things are the way they are.
I have experience in a variety of acting styles, having had classical theatre training when I was younger, moving to explore screen acting and multimedia at university. I'm eager to further delve into how art can transcend beyond the liveness, continuing to develop my learning of how to use different mediums to tell the stories I want to.
Beyond acting, during my time at university, I have been able to explore different aspects within the industry, developing my love for writing, something I ventured into at a young age. I’m open to the possibility of pursuing solo and group work, feeling drawn to the vastness within the creative industry that would allow me to present my desired work through a variety of roles.
